Purpose: In this 1-hour virtual session, we will discuss how to carefully take apart knit sweaters to use the unraveled yarn in your next upcycled projects. Labels, what to look for when shopping second hand-clothing stores and the various aspects one might encounter when taking the sweater apart will be discussed.
Speaker: Melanie D Sanford, principal with Conserving Threads, is a boutique firm in Dallas, Texas, specializing in the comprehensive consultation, conservation and installation services of historic textiles and related objects for private clients, historical societies, and museums. Conserving threads is also an online store providing plant-based fibers and yarns to hand-spinners, knitters, and fiber enthusiast. Ms. Sanford has over thirty years studying textiles and fashions. She is a promotor of second-hand fashion, fashion-flipping, and likes to look and re-imagine.
